* * * ## Overview This ICU (Integrated Control Unit) features a completely redesigned circuit board with modern electronic components. Unlike salvaged or refurbished boards, this ICU offers a fresh, reliable solution for your classic Honda. See the installation video search "MyEFVideos" on Google or Bing. The color of the plastic enclosure may be different from the original ICU. I initially created this ICU for myself, because when I needed to replace the ICU in my fourth gen Honda Civic, I had to buy six used ICUs before I received one that was fully functional. Even the fully functional ICU I managed to find had the tell-tale signs of imminent failure; discolored traces on the circuit board and a very long pause between cycles of the intermittent wipers, indicating that the electrolytic capacitors were nearing end of life. Because I am only making a small number of ICUs and they are intended for customers that see the value of a reliable replacement, I was not as price sensitive in my design and component selection as I imagine Honda was thirty-five years ago, when they were ordering hundreds of thousands of ICUs. I don’t use electrolytic capacitors; I used more expensive and more reliable ceramic capacitors. Similarly I only used metal film resistors instead of the less expensive and less heat tolerant carbon film resistors. Then there is just the fact that some of the components I am using simply didn’t exist thirty-five years ago. The general trend towards better manufacturing processes, better performance and lower cost components over time makes it possible for me to select higher quality components that might have been prohibitively expensive if they even existed back then. * * * ## Core Fee I reuse the electrical connectors and the plastic case to make new ICUs, which is why this part has a 'core charge'—a deposit that rewards you for returning the old part. The sale price of the ICU includes a $30 core charge, which will be **promptly** refunded when your old part (core) is returned within 30 days. As an added bonus, I will refund another $5 for each additional core you provide up to a maximum of 20 additional cores, for a maximum total core refund of $130! * * * ## Quality Assurance Made with AEC-qualified components (AEC-Q200, AEC-Q100, AEC-Q101) AEC qualification is the global standard for stress resistance that electronic components must meet, if they are intended for use within the automotive industry. Returns are accepted within 30 days. * * * ## Compatibility and Customization Suitable replacement for either 38600-SH3-A11 or 38600-SH3-A01. Some aftermarket modifications can affect compatibility. If you have aftermarket modifications, perform this simple test: 1. Get into the car where you intend to install the ICU, close the door, and turn the key on then turn the key all the way off. Do not remove the key from the ignition. 2. Open the door. You should hear a series of beeps from the existing ICU, this will be four short beeps followed by a pause and that pattern will repeat once per second until you either remove the key or close the door. If your USDM (United States Domestic Market) car is listed as compatible and you hear the beeps your car should be compatible. This part is not compatible with cars designed for EDM, JDM or any market other than the United States. * * * ## Additional Features This ICU duplicates **all the functions of the OEM part** and provides the following **additional features**: - **Variable Delay Intermittent Wipers**(for cars with intermittent wipers) To adjust the delay: 1. Turn the wiper switch to "Intermittent." 2. Turn the wiper switch to "Off." 3. Wait for the desired delay time. 4. Turn the switch back to "Intermittent." The system will remember this delay time. If the switch is off for less than one second or more than one minute, it will reset to the default delay. This method of setting the delay lets you set the wipe frequency based on real-time rain intensity and your preferences. You simply mark the beginning and end of the interval while actually experiencing the rain or road spray, giving you a simple intuitive way to set it precisely for the current conditions. - **Automatic Windshield Wiper Activation when the windshield washer pump is used** (if your car has the necessary wire; Some cars do not have this wire. It is easy to check, search "MyEFVideos" on Google or Bing and watch the video titled "How to take a picture of the ICU connection under the dash") With this ICU installed activating the Windshield Washer Pump will also activate the Windshield Wipers. The wipers will wipe continuously while the windshield washer pump is pumping. They will continue to wipe for two seconds more after the pump switch is released, then it pauses for two seconds before it performs one final wipe. - **Key Reminder Tone Mute option**. When the door is open and the key is left in the ignition the car normally alerts you that you are forgetting your key with a series of beeps. You can disable the key reminder by pressing the door open sensor button three times in rapid succession to mute the key reminder tone. You will hear one two second tone to acknowledge the command and then the beeping will stop. The key reminder is automatically re-enabled the next time you insert the key. - **Lights On Reminder**. If the lights are on when the key is removed and the door is open this ICU provides an audible alert, so you will never again drain the battery because you didn't realize your lights were on. * * * ## Common Issues Resolved by Replacing the ICU - Regular windshield wipers work but intermittent wipers do not (for cars with intermittent wipers). - Brake warning light stays on unnecessarily. - Front corner lights malfunctioning (either staying on or off incorrectly). * * * ## Installation Plug-and-play upgrade; no modifications required. Installation normally takes less than ten minutes. No additional knobs, switches or wires necessary. See the installation video search "MyEFVideos" on Google or Bing.
