You just need to gain access to the steering rack from below the car. You will see at the outer end of the rack there is a rubber billows (boot). Loosen the inner-most tie-rod boot clamp and slide the boot off of the rack housing. Many of the clamps are retained with a small bolt but some are just a metal strap. If you have the strap style you may or may not be able to free it and may have to cut the strap. If this is the case just use a heavy-duty tie-wrap when reinstalling the boot. Turn the wheel to gain access to the sector shaft. Snap the rack limiter spacer in place onto the sector shaft just behind the inner tie-rod nut..You most likely will see one of these spacers already in-place. Just add the additional spacer in the same location. Now there will be 2 spacers in place. Re-position the tie-rod boot and tighten the clamp or install a tie-wrap. Steering rack limiters or "travel restrictors" are small high density nylon spacers that you install to your steering rack - under the bellows or boots. This spacer will limit the travel of the rack & reduce turning radius. This is popular and very helpful when installing larger tires and wider wheels to help keep & eliminate tire contact with the lower front A-arms. Sold as a set of 2 Mustang owners who install wider tires/rims on the front of their Mustang or lower their Mustangs with lowering springs always run the risk of rubbing at full steering lock (U-Turns / Tight Turning Radius). These rack limiters will prevent this rubbing by slightly limiting the steering just enough to keep your tires from rubbing. Have you just installed a new set of wider aftermarket rims and now your front tires/wheels are hitting the lower control arm when you do a tight turn? Well these specially designed washers will fix the problem. They are OEM Ford parts. These are used on many different vehicles from the factory. Ford has used this on the Mustang Fox body when they went to the pony wheels. If you are installing 8 inch wide rims you should add 1 washer per side. If installing 9 inch wide wheels add 2 per side. This listing is for a pair (2) of washers. Order of (1) gets you 2 spacers. Order (2) gets you 4 spacers, etc. Order as many sets as you need. **What size are these spacers?** These are the off-white - special high temperature nylon construction. They are approximately 1/4" (.260" or 6.6mm) thick. We use to have access to other size spacers but Ford has since discontinued many of them. Check with me if you need more info on this. Installation of these washers is a fairly easy job. They are located under the bellows which cover the end of the steering rack where the inner tie rod is located. There are many articles on the web that go over the installation. This modification can be performed with simple hand tools in less than an hour. Many stock steering racks already has this size limiters in the stock setup...  Ford uses them so that they can share the steering rack among many different vehicles, with different body style and wheel sizes. They may also work with other vehicles including other manufacturers that use a similar rack & pinion steering rack.
