**Ford Heater Core Coolant "Flow Restrictor" Heater Core Protector - Fits 3/4" Hose** **Fits 79-04 Mustang models and more.** **_We are currently shipping the item shown in the first 4 photos. This is a substitute for the OEM Ford black version which is on back order. Install and use it the same way by inserting it inside the heater core inlet side hose. The dimensions on this part is 3/4" diameter x 5/8" length. Ford charges more than $23 for this part._** **_Take a look at some of the new diagrams we have uploaded showing where this part is normally installed. It is a great part to add to your cooling system to provide some additional insurance against heater core over-pressurization, reducing the chances of heater core being damaged during high-rpm engine operation._** **_Details_** Originally used on police cars & 1993 Cobras to reduce volume and pressure to prevent heater core blow outs and leaks. Recommended for all 1979-93 V8’s to reduce heater core leaks because core replacement is a big job. Easily fits inside the heater core hose. **Mustang Heater Core Flow Restrictor** The heater core flow restrictor is an important part of the replacement of your heater supply hose and heater core on your 1979-2004 Mustang. This part helps reduce the risk of your heater core failing. The flow restrictor's job is to decrease the pressure of the coolant that flows into the heater core. It installs in the 3/4" heater supply hose in all applications. On the heater core side of the hose, slide the tapered end of the restrictor in first. No extra clamps are required for installation. This heater hose restrictor is original equipment for 1996-04 Mustangs, but can also be used on 1979-95 Mustangs as well. **_We have a few in stock! Please Read All Details Below Before You Make Your Purchase._** **_Contact me with any questions prior to purchasing. Look at the pictures to see where it's installed._** _**UPDATE:**_ _In stock and ready to ship but last one for a while!_ _More also on the way._ _Everything below is left for reference purposes. You can read about the original restrictor_ _An easy to install inline restrictor that you insert into your factory or aftermarket heater hose at the the heater core inlet tube junction. See notes below on recommended hose sizes and overview of best way to use this if you originally did not have one from the factory. This is made with the original Ford tooling. It is made from a high density, high temperature polymer & will provide many years of care free service. I have taken pictures of the original part out removed from packaging for reference. Please read all notes & details below on the use, fitment and potential provisions or modifications necessary to properly use this part in your vehicle if you originally did not have one installed. Most of the time all that is needed is to insert this into the hose bringing coolant to the heater core then reattach the hose._ _**LOOK>**_ _**Question: What size heater hose does this restrictor fit best?**_ _**This restrictor fits a 3/4" heater hose the best!** >>> **You "may" be able to get it to work with a 5/8" heater hose but it will be quite a bit of effort. >>> for best results use this part with a 3/4" hose.**_ _For 5/8" hose, this may entail heating the hose to stretch it a bit while inserting the restrictor. Slight provision may be necessary if your 5/8" hose is stiff. Contact me prior to your purchase if you need help or have any questions._ _Again, to reiterate, you are much better off using this part with 3/4" heater hose._ **_Question: where should this part be installed?_** _**Answer:** This restrictor is recommended to be inserted inside the hose at the inlet side of the heater core. On most V8 ford small blocks this is the inboard side (toward the middle of the car) heater core port. It was recommended to install in the hose close to the connection at the heater core. Ford has released a bulletin at some point with a revision and recommending to install the restrictor in the same hose but closer to the connection at the manifold, about an inch back. Also use a hose clamp on the hose to keep the restrictor in-place. This is the same hose, just the opposite end. I have uploaded some pictures from that bulletin that shows the new recommended location. Either way, at either position this part will still protect the heater core, so just use your best judgement and insert it in the location that works best. I am just including the information to help you decide._ _From the web:_ Original heater core inlet restrictor Ford P/N E7VH-18D406-AA 1.25" from the engine. Note that this is the updated location from close mounting to the heater core tube. The restrictor shall be oriented such that the beveled edge faces the front of the car and its location secured with a hose clamp. That part is no longer available but the part in this listing can be used as a substitute. _**availability: we are down to our last few ? New shipment from Ford shortly (few days).**_ _WE CURRENTLY HAVE ( **3**) IN STOCK RIGHT NOW WITH_ __SOME MORE ON THE WAY IN (5+) DAYS._ PICKUP ONE NOW AND IT WILL BE SHIPPED OUT AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE> CONTACT ME FOR MORE INFORMATION IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE>_ _**Note:** **Be aware that you may need to make minor modifications to properly & safely install this restrictor if your vehicle did not come with this type of part from the factory.** To date the only thing that we have heard is that if the short hoses that go from the heater core inlet tube to the metal tube that attaches to the manifold or that brings the coolant back to the water pump are damaged or stiff from age. Sometimes those hoses may have been shortened or damaged. You need to insert this restrictor into the hose attaching to the heater core inlet tube. If your hose is too short or has too much of a bend you may need to modify the hose or replace the hose. This restrictor goes into the hose! It is a good idea to replace older heat hoses as they are a potential point of failure. Contact me if you have any questions. Read more detail below._ Don't risk damaging another heater core! It has become a common problem with the 5.0L Mustang to go through heater core. Replacing the heater core in the Mustang is a fairly tough job to say the least, especially if it has factory air conditioning installed. This restrictor will help protect that new heater core you just installed and also help protect the one in your car now, especially if it is not leaking! This restrictor is recommended to be installed on the heater core inlet side. I have included a diagram showing the inlet side on a 5.0/5.8L engine for the F150. Most other vehicles with the small block Ford will be similar and use this as a reference but just confirm the water flow direction going (into) the core before you install the restrictor. The restrictor is designed to be placed before the heater core inlet side to protect the core from excess pressure, surging and flow and extend the life of your existing or new heater core! This also can be used as a universal type part that could be used or adapted to fit many vehicles. Contact me if you need any assistance or have any questions. Sorry for the price increase. Ford has gone up on the cost of this part and we do not make anything on them! **Note:****_1st_** picture shows the part new in the Ford packaging just as you will receive it. I have uploaded a diagram from Ford showing the common location. Your best location may be slightly different depending on your model, size heater hoses and available space. Also I uploaded a picture showing the restrictor installed in a factory heater hose that fits the 86-93 Mustang as a reference as an example of what you can do with it. I believe this hose was originally shipped that way on the Police version of the Mustang (SSP). Last 3 pictures are of the actual item. I removed one from the package so you can see exactly what you will receive. Any questions or concerns please let me know. **Additional considerations:** Please be aware that your particular heater core inlet hose may be different than shown in any of the pictures. Depending on your year, model & make, sometime they are fairly straight hoses and other times they are small hoses that are in the shape of an "S", an "L" or any other weird hose that may snake around your engine compartment! You may actually have to lube the restrictor with silicone lube or similar and force it into the hose to get it to go by the bend in the hose and position it into an acceptable location. This is very easy to do. If you are unsure or this is not clear please contact me prior to your purchase. We have provided literally hundreds of the restrictors without any issues. Just be patient and use your imagination. Although originally designed for the 96-04 Mustang & many late model Ford & Lincoln & Mercury passenger vehicles and light trucks, this part can easily be used on many different vehicles to provide heater core protection & help prevent premature failure, leaks and blowouts. Thanks for your understanding._ **USES:** Although not originally equipped with this part, this restrictor "can" be adapted to work on 1979-2004 Ford Mustang and most likely many other Ford and non-Ford vehicles on various years including autos and light trucks. It comes standard on the 1996-04 Mustang V8 4.6L engine. There have been various versions of this over the years as far back to the 60's and possibly before this. It is common to see them installed on the police interceptor versions of many Fords including the Mustang over the years. This part will help protect your heater core from excessive coolant flow and pressure spikes. It is especially helpful if you seem to bring your engine RPM up on a regular basis. If you have a 79-93 Mustang with air conditioning you already probably know how much trouble it is to replace the heater core. This part can help extend the life of the heater core. Pick one up today. It is easy to install. General installation & most common use of this part is to install it "into" the hose right at the inlet side of the heater core. **basic instructions (refer to service manual or a mechanic if you are not sure about the process):** 1. drain enough coolant from your engine so you will not loose much when disconnecting the heater hose 2. remove hose connection at the heater core inlet side (at the firewall) - this is the supply side, not the return side 3. insert inline heater core protector (the part from this listing) 4. reinstall heater hose and tighten clamp 5. use an additional clamp at the point in the hose that now contains the restrictor to keep it stationary. 6. refill your cooling system and check for leaks 7. start engine, check for leaks and continue to refill your cooling system until all air is out off the system 8. enjoy the extra life you will now get out of the heater core. **Installation tips:** Just put this inline with the heater hose feeding (bringing water to) the heater core. This is generally the hose that connects to the back of the intake manifold. You can place it in your hose and use a small hose clamp to lock it in place if you like. Either way it will not go beyond the heater hose tube as it is larger than the tube. There is information on the web that references this part if you need more information on it's benefits. It's an OEM Ford part in the factory package. Picture is of actual part. This part is similar to the E7VY-18D358A which lists for more than $30 from Ford and is almost impossible to get. The basic function is the same! This sometimes may sellout locally so allow up to an extra 3-5 days in case this happens. We get new inventory weekly. Thanks for looking. **Here are a few of our customers recent experiences with this part:** - _Works like a charm! Local Ford dealer did not know_ - _Absolutely super part & no issue using this on my Ford Explorer. Purchased another for my Ford F150. Pick one up before your heater leaks_ **Taken from the web:** _This heater hose restrictor is original equipment on the 96-04 4.6L Mustangs but can also be used on 79-95 Mustangs as well. Because of its slightly longer length, the use of a light grease may be required to fully insert the restrictor in to the 79-95 heater hoses. Fitments below:_ _**Recent Q & A's:**_ _**Question:**_ _What size heater hose will the restrictor fit, 5/8" or 3/4" ?_ _**Answer:**_ _I have taken measurements of the 2 areas on this restrictor for you. There is a slight ramp on the lead end that measures about .75 inches. The recessed area that the clamp would normally tighten around to retain it is .68 inches. **I would say it would most likely work better with a 3/4" hose but you may be able likely get it to fit into a 5/8" hose with a little effort.** To be on the safe side I would say 3/4" I hope this info has helped. If you need a better picture of the restrictor just contact me with your email address. Thanks for your consideration._ _**Question:** Will this only work on early V8 Ford engines?_ _**Answer**:_ _This part can be used on most setups new and old and will protect the heater core from excess pressure and water flow. This includes the newer modular engines regardless of size, # of cylinders, etc. (4.6L, 5.0L etc.) and also small block, big block engines, V8, V6, L6, L4 and alike. Also this part would work with non-Ford vehicles as well. Do your research but as long as this part can be installed into the hot water supply side hose going to the heater core it will help protect your heater core from excess pressure and water surging that can damage the integrity of the heater core. pn: XR3Z-18599-AA_ ## Vehicle Applications: - Ford Mustang - 1979 (79) - 1980 (80) - 1981 (81) - 1982 (82) - 1983 (83) - 1984 (84) - 1985 (85) - 1986 (86) - 1987 (87) - 1988 (88) - 1989 (89) - 1990 (90) - 1991 (91) - 1992 (92) - 1993 (93) - 1994 (94) - 1995 (95) - 1996 (96) - 1997 (97) - 1998 (98) - 1999 (99) - 2000 (00) - 2001 (01) - 2002 (02) - 2003 (03) - 2004 (04) - This type of restrictor can be adapted to fit many other vehicles.
