This beautiful car is a 1947 Studebaker Champion Regal Deluxe 4 dor sedan in Lt. Shenandoah green. It was repainted several years ago by the prior owner. He bought the car in regular Shenandoah green but wanted the lighter shade, so in the restoration, had it painted in Lt. Shenandoah green, not realizing that THIS was the car's original colr as evidenced by the paint and code label glued under the dash. This Studebaker is very historic because it was the FIRST car, totally redesigned by any car company after World War 2. IN fact, Studebaker's slogan that year and next was, "First by Far, With a Postwar car" They had many ads in national magazines and in September, 1946, LIFE magazine ran a 9 page story IN COLOR! about the car, its manufacture, the company, its leaders and workers. A copy of this LIFE magazine and other LIFE magazine ads accompany with the car! I also have a wealth of Studebaker ephemera that goes with the car: like, the owner's manual, build sheet, shop manual, testimonial booklet by Floyd Clymer, and various dealer brochures profiling the 1947 Studebakers and the options available. This Regal DeLuxe was highly dealer optioned!~ This car has a flat head 6 cylinder Studebaker motor, hill holder clutch, 3 on the tree shift with electric overdrive (the solenoid was recently replaced) which kicks into 4th gear after reaching 30 mph.(3rd gear) It works great. The original under the clutch starter has been replaced with a newer under the dash push button starter (more reliable!) The car has been well-maintained with regular oil and cartridge filter changes (The Fram filter system came with the car, which most cars of the day did not have!) as well as yearly radiator fluid and air filter changes. The air filter originally was an oil bath type, but was changed out to a dry type by the prior owner. A few years back, an electric fuel pump was installed t o prevent vapor lock caused by the awful ethanol gas additive. The car is regularly serviced by Rodney's Auto Shop on Route 83 in Cape May Court House by mechanic, Mike Sciola. The car has about 86K miles on the odometer. It rides on Coker wide whitewall bias-ply tires, two of which have less than 5K miles on them. All Studebakers in 1947 wore black wall tires. Whitewalls were a dealer option in those days, and this car has them The wheels are painted dark green to contrast the car's paint, (no pinstripe on the wheels; apparently this was intermittent on models off the line) and there are stainless trim rings and dog dish hub caps, original to the car as purchased. The interior is in great shape! The seats are comfortable, and have been reupholstered in a wool pin-striped broadcloth. Carpeting is dark green. The car has a "Climatizer" heating system ( which still works!) and working side fender ventilators. The original steering wheel is in tough shape but has been double covered with a leather "stitched" cover and a white textured silicone (truck steering wheel). STUcover over that which matches the original white color of the steering wheel. This turned out to be a wonderful serendipitous addition since the car has no power steering and it helps with handling the car! The car will come with a plethora of spare parts including a rebuilt like-new starter. he car has a 6 volt battery and the generator has been replaced with a 6 volt alternator. It also has an additional 6 volt fan motor attached to the radiator for those super hot summer car shows! The car has never over heated however, after a new thermostat was installed. I am asking $15 K for the car (or best offer. As you can probably tell, I LOVE this car and hate to part with it, but I'm selling for health and age reasons. The buyer must pay for shipping the car, OR it can be driven by you to your location if not too far! All photos are of the car and its awards were taken at at this year's shows, so they are current!
