I'll try to address it hear:** Thermostats have a “rated” temperature (such as 160F, 170F, or 180F) This is the temperature the thermostat will start to open, releasing heated coolant from the engine into the radiator. The thermostat will fully open once the coolant gets another ten or fifteen degrees warmer. **note:** just to reiterate, this is a quality 180° MotoRad replacement thermostat. This is the 180° low temp, high flow version thermostat with part number 2000180. We also have this available in a 160F & 192F in some of our other listings. Sorry for any confusion.. **Details on free gasket kit.** Listed photos are stock images. Most are black & dark gray & some possibly brown. Current batch is dark gray. Most have adhesive on one side to facilitate installation and make a good seal. All are high quality Motorad brand gaskets MG50 **Questions: Should you use a low-temp thermostat?** The use of a low-temp thermostat can help keep engine temps down in hotter weather and during performance driving situations. Also may be helpful if your cooling system is marginal. Do some research if you are unsure of your particular situation. Do you have a factory OEM 192F thermostat and looking for a lower temp replacement thermostat? This one will interchange with Motorcraft RT1139 (E0HT8260FA, XR3E8575BA, XR3Z8575BA) all of which are the OEM 192 factory temperature thermostat. For application and fitment purposes this is a low temperature thermostat that can interchange with these factory part numbers. It is a great idea to replace your thermostat as a preventative measure, especially if you cooling system is more than 5 years old. Changing coolant, change the thermostat. Many fitments. See list above & below. This setup can allow better cooling than the factory thermostat if your factory thermostat is a 190-195° temp range thermostat. A 180° can keep your engine a little bit cooler & under certain conditions can be beneficial & preferred. As stated this thermostat is rated to start to open at 180 degrees and will fit applications that take the listed cross-reference part numbers, although those part numbers may be rated at different temperatures. Please use this thermostat kit "only" if you know you want a 180 degree thermostat. We also carry other temperature thermostat kits that may be correct or a better choice if you want a factory temperature thermostat. If you are unsure, please contact me for help. Certain model Fords may trip a check engine light if the temperature is not what the computer is expecting or if it does not reach a certain operating temperature within a certain amount of time. Generally this can happen if the thermostat is stuck open or if it opens at a too-low temperature (usually when going bad). Generally the 160 degree is within the acceptable range, especially on older vehicles. Your individual results may vary & needs may be different, so choose your temperature accordingly. We also carry this setup in a 160, 180°, 192° & 195° kit for those who want to replace the thermostat with the factory rated temperature. In cooler climates or in the winter months a 195° may be preferred. Look in out other listings for that kit. See details below. This is a high quality thermostat made by MotoRad. We carry a similar kit in both 160° & 195 degrees in out other listings. **UPDATE:** We also have a thermostat housing kit that will include both a new housing and thermostat in another listing. **Fitments include:** FORDBRONCO1973-1996FORDCOUNTRY SQUIRE1987-1991FORDE-1001970-1983FORDE-1501975-1996FORDE-200 ECONOLINE1970-1974FORDE-2501975-1996FORDE-300 ECONOLINE1970-1974FORDE-3501975-1996FORDEXPLORER1996-2001FORDF-1001968-1983FORDF-1501975-1996FORDF-2501968-1997FORDF-3501968-1997FORDF-5001975-1977FORDFREESTAR2004-2007FORDLTD CROWN VICTORIA1984-1991FORDMUSTANG1964-1995FORDRANCHERO1960-1978FORDTHUNDERBIRD1986-1993FORDWINDSTAR1998-2003LINCOLNCONTINENTAL1986-1987LINCOLNMARK VII1986-1992LINCOLNTOWN CAR1986-1990MERCURYCAPRI1984-1986MERCURYCOLONY PARK1987-1991MERCURYCOUGAR1986-1993MERCURYGRAND MARQUIS1984-1991MERCURYMONTEREY2004-2007MERCURYMOUNTAINEER1997-2001 **Benefits:** - Meets or exceeds OEM specifications for proper coolant flow - Durable double bridge opening design for long life, stability and strength - Manufactured from high quality components to meet the demanding conditions of the automotive cooling system - Copper case and wax compound assures rapid response to temperature changes in the coolant - Offset design, air relief valve and OEM style seals included where applicable Do you need a different temperature?
