Ford recommends replacing the cap any time that you remove or replace the front wheel hub. Doing so will maintain a nice tight leak free seal at the hub to keep out any possible contamination of your hub bearing, ensuring a long life. **TIP:** make sure that you properly torque the hub nut. This is one reason for premature failure of aftermarket hubs...It is also recommended to use a new hub nut when installing a new hub. You also need a very large torque wrench. Make sure you get the correct torque spec for your model & year before you start the repair. **Common question: Why do I need this part?** Obviously if you are missing a cap you need one. But also be aware that Ford has this cap listed as a single use part. It is recommended to be replaced if you do any type of hub service to your Ford as in replacing or removing your wheel hub assembly. This part can easily be damaged when being removed and then you will risk water, dirt, moisture, etc. getting into and contaminating your wheel bearing.
