This item is listed as "fits 1998 - 2003" because this item fits all ZX2 from 1998 \- 2003.   This version of the part is superior to the version used from 1999 - 2003.   It is made of better plastic and has screw-in type sensors, not the clip-in style which are prone to leak.   This is one of the best retrofit items you can get for your 99 - 03 zx2.   This part will arrive clean, as pictured with the specific 1998 ZX2 thermostat housing water neck and bolts.\*\* Thank you for looking at this item. \*the last picture provided is the thermostat housing from a 2003 which overheated and caused the head gasket to fail to illustrate how the newer style breaks and why the 98 style is the better of the two I have also added a video showing the newer version leaking at the seam in the plastic water neck. In addition to the new style breaking at the body and causing leaks, it also bursts at the seams. The 98 style water neck is made with the same different reinforced plastic as the 98 style housing. It does not have seams and is not subject to leakage as the newer version is due to bursting. \\*\\* please keep in mind that this item is used and includes used sensors which are a normal wear item.   These parts are included to make it easier to identify a replacement if it is necessary.
