The hydraulic tops in these cars, while way ahead of their time in terms of hydraulic and mechanical engineering, did not utilize superior materials in their construction, simply because modern materials didn't exist 20 years ago. On top of that, the electronics are old school digital technology that is either on or off, and not rated for the powerful current modern batteries and alternators can deliver . I saw cars with 240k miles and 13k miles have the same problem: a fried RST controller.
