The piston faces have some carbon staining, but no serious buildup or damage. The piston rings are included, but they should be replaced before installing the pistons. The piston skirts each have some scuffs, but only a few spots are deep enough to be felt by hand. There are no cracks or breaks in the pistons. The connecting rods are all healthy and useable. Production for the "model year" usually begins in September of the previous calendar year, so if you have a 1995 model BMW it will have been produced anywhere between 9/94 - 8/95. Some cars begin their production earlier than September, such as the first year production for a new model. For example, if we say the part fits 04/95 - 99 it will fit those cars with a production date of April 1995 to 1999 model year cars.
