At this time you will be able to reach up on top of the brake controller on the Top left-hand side and push down on the black lever that you see me pointing at in the photo. No tools required. If the wires appear to be too short to pull the unit totally out of the dash you may have to reach underneath and cut the ties holding the wires tight.  You may drive your vehicle without the brake controller installed.
